Pepe's Adventure was upgraded to version 2!

This update has a ton to unpack compared to everything else I've done so far with the game and I'm really happy of all the efforts I've put into the game. This update marks the day when the game went from version 1 to version 2

Changes

  • Quality of life upgrades
    • Pepe can now change how powerful his kicks and energy balls are by switching to either Agile Stance or Strong Stance via the control keys, so that will help players maneuver around obstacles and pits. This was inspired by Pokemon Legends of Arceus which features an agile or strong style system for the Pokemons' moves.
    • You can now bring the camera to the ball if you lose it, you'll no longer need to rely on F1 with the vague DEBUG numbers to find your soccer ball.
    • You can mute the game if you want to now.
    • Improvement on the level design from last update.
A new NPC was added to introduce the new agile/strong stance feature.
  • The game was expanded farther, now Pepe must venture through a spooky castle to reach the goal with unsettling music to accompany it and a brand new partially solid obstacle that is impassable for the ball, but intangible for Pepe.
  • Proper collision detection between the ball and Pepe, Pepe can no longer fuse with the ball. This was annoying if you try to unstuck the poor thing whenever it gets stuck in a corner.
  • Moved the goalpost, but left a flag to remind the player of where the goalpost was previously.
  • Stairs now block light. I thought adding a behaviour to block light on the stairs wouldn't work properly, so it took me months to try and realise I was wrong.
  • Pepe's face in the sky changes if you're carrying the ball with you.
  • Added an outline to more objects.
  • Also added a cake for the funsies.

Stuff todo

Though the game is only getting bigger and better, I wanted to add more to it. That'd take a while to actually carry out the changes. First of all, I wanted to add more unique balls for replayability, the game currently has 4 different balls with 4 different behaviours.

Both footballs are functionally the same, but still differ in quite a few ways/The rugby ball is more aerodynamic/The thinking emoji has all its stats randomised, so it never behaves the same twice.

If you check the project files there's a bowling ball which is intended to act as the complete opposite to the rugby ball, there's a red balloon which should float up constantly and there's a bludger from Harry Potter which should follow Pepe around and knock him off platforms.

This would add more replayability to the game than it currently does and also it would be interesting to see how the game subverts its rage machanics with the balloon and the bludger.

The other thing I wanted to add was a proper save feature, but it would require a local build to work properly because my browser and your browser are dumb.

Anyways that's all of it, see ya!
